Volkswagen Group Australia collaborates with All Auto Recalls to assist in the recovery of Affected Takata Airbag Inflators

Volkswagen Group Australia has partnered with All Auto Recalls to assist in the recovery of Affected Takata Airbag Inflators (ATAI) from salvage and auto-recyclers, recalled under the mandatory ACCC Recall Notice for certain Volkswagen and Skoda vehicles with frontal Takata airbag inflators, effective immediately.

The mandatory safety recall, which was issued by the Australian Government earlier this year, requires that all affected frontal Takata airbags are recovered between now and the end of 2020.

REASON FOR THE RECALL:

According to the Australian Government, as the faulty Takata airbag installed in your vehicle ages and/or is exposed to high temperatures and humidity, the PSAN propellant is exposed to moisture and degrades. The ACCC's investigation concluded that, if you are involved in a collision, the airbag can go off with too much explosive force, rupturing the airbag inflator housing, causing sharp metal fragments to shoot out and kill or seriously injure people in the vehicle.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:

Any auto-recycler wishing to determine whether any vehicle or parts in their possession are affected by the mandatory safety recall, can use the following VIN checker tools, for each of the following brands:
