Call to Action

The compulsory recall of defective Takata airbags is like no other in scale and severity - experts are predicting upwards of 100 million defective Takata airbags will be on recall by 2020 globally because these millions pose a high risk of injury or death.

Ignorance or Indifference is not an excuse

Australian Consumer Law prohibits the supply of goods to which a recall notice relates. Further, under the recent compulsory Recall Notice, suppliers of spare

parts have obligations to 'identify and remove Affected Takata Airbag Inflators from the spare parts market" (Australian Competition and Consumer Commission).

If you do not comply with your obligations, ignorance or indifference is not an excuse if you are the one to sell an airbag that seriously injures or kills a driver or passenger.

Also, it is important to remember that with so many of these defective airbags in circulation it is likely that you or someone in your family has a vehicle on recall and is at risk.

*Do the right thing * Remove recalled airbags from your vehicles*

*Look after yourself, your family and your customers*

AAR offers an easy, effective way to check the recall status of VINs going through your business

10-1.png

The key is being able to conduct a check of all the vehicles you currently have in your inventory as well as any new vehicles coming in.

  • AAR allows you to download your full VIN list, with make/model details and check for recalls on all your existing inventory IN ONE GO, without the need to look up each VIN individually - an almost impossible task!

  • AAR allows you to check for recalls on any new vehicle you handle.

However, additional VINs are being released by manufacturers constantly, so while you might think you are set once the VIN was cleared at check-in, it is possible that the VIN has had a subsequent recall associated to it at a later stage - at dismantling, when a part is sold, at the point of vehicle crushing or even well after you sold the part.

  • AAR understands the way the industry works and the need for an automated solution to this challenge. It will send you an AAR Auto Alerts© on future recalls related to your registered VINs, or by make/model when VINs are not available.

What about the time and effort needed to remove the airbag from inventory once identified?

10-2.png

Financially, we can all agree that there is a cost for the time and effort needed to remove an affected airbag and store it or return it to the manufacturer and this has an impact on the efficient running of your business.

Recyclers are often heard saying that they would prefer not to do anything about affected airbags, "It's just not worth the trouble - at the end of the day, it is the manufacturer's responsibility."

The good news is that AAR is working to minimise the impact of the compulsory recall for recyclers. We have developed a capability to deliver an efficient way to check VINs upon vehicle receipt and of course the industry leading AAR Auto Alerts© function to keep your recall identification up to date without you having to manually check every one of your VINs every day. Beyond this capability that enables compliance, AAR is building processes and working with manufacturers, to reward auto recyclers for the time and effort they put into the retrieval of these products.

We are pleased to announce that Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has just partnered with AAR to streamline the Takata airbag retrieval from auto recyclers and have agreed to remunerate recyclers for their time and effort in removing airbags. Discussions with other manufacturers indicate that they are prepared to follow JLR's lead. For more information or to understand how you may take advantage of this AAR deal, please contact AAR founder Chris Daglis on 0411 743 560.

That's right, auto recyclers may be able to be remunerated for their efforts and commitment to safety and the retrieval of affected Takata airbags!

So, in this context why would recyclers not identify, remove and store affected airbags just as you do catalytic converters and other core components? Particularly given the possibility of compensation for the time and effort needed to do so.

Take advantage of all the benefits of using AAR and make sure you comply with your obligations as a recycler. Contact us NOW.
